Tips for writing an effective online dating message to a potential match
If you have ever felt uncertain about the protocol for electronic communication for online dating websites, you are not alone. Consider the following advice and increase your chances of attracting your match on the web.
1. Grab his attention with the subject of your message. Create a witty, intriguing subject line and he’ll read your message before any others in his inbox!
2. Apply the KISS rule. Keep It Simple Stupid. Don’t make him research a topic or refer to the dictionary just to respond back to your message.
3. Make it short and sweet- but more than two sentences, please! The goal is to give him enough to write a quick response, but not enough to overwhelm him with the length of your text and have him put it off until later.
4. Compliment him. Sincerely tell him what you like most about him.
5. Ask questions. There are plenty of great guys online who want to respond but just don’t know what to say. Throw a guy a bone to prompt a response.
6. State common interests, core values, etc. It is always helpful to let a guy know why you think you’d be a match.
And if you learn nothing else….Just make sure that your messages reflects the fact that you have read a guy’s profile in its’ entirety. Nothing is a bigger turn off than a generic old copy and paste job. Make him feel special or lose out on the opportunity altogether.
